We camped at Chickahominy Riverfront Park as part of a long weekend getaway to the Jamestown and Williamsburg area. This was a fall trip, so we took bikes along but not kayaks.
Pros
Multiple Site Types
We camped in the RV section, which had water, electric and sewer hookups. There were also tent sites and “glamping” sites, which are sites that have large permanent tent structures on a wooden deck.
Campground and Park
There is a park as well as the campground. The park includes a huge grassy area, a pavilion with picnic tables and a playground. It looks like they have kayak/canoe rentals during the summer.
Close to Jamestown and Williamsburg
The campground is close to Jamestown and Williamsburg, so we did an outing to each place while we were there.

We saw a demonstration of a matchlight firearm while we were at the Jamestown museum. He was entertaining, and, yes, he could fire in less than 30 seconds.
In Williamsburg there were some folks on the street discussing politics of the day.

We learned the difference between a shoemaker and a cobbler in Williamsburg.
The blacksmiths were hard at work.

I wish I had a better picture of the guy who was talking. We were there about 30 minutes and he just described things nonstop. He answered questions from a young visitor, then some of Jim’s questions.
Biking
The Virginia Capital Trail is a paved bike/walking trail that runs from Richmond to Jamestown. The trail runs right past the campground, so there are bikers coming and going, and the trail is available for your use. We took our bikes and did a short ride over the bridge and back.

Jamestown island is a nice park with two loops that you can bike, walk or drive through. We took our bikes there and rode through one of the loops at the end of the day.
Boat Ramp
We definitely would like to return during the summer with kayaks. There is a boat ramp in the campground that facilitates small fishing boats as well as non-motor boats. The ramp enters into Gordon Creek, which empties into the Chickahominy river. Gordon Creek has a lot of grasses and looks like a great place to explore and find wildlife.

Wildlife
I saw two eagles fly over the campsite while I was there. We also saw a duck family and some snowy egrets. There were lots of birds flying through and I’m sure it is teaming with life throughout the summer.
Duck Family

Speaking of wildlife, there was a duck family that slept in the middle of the boat ramp each night we were there. We went to visit them every morning. Looks like juvenile duck is exploring under the dock.
Cons
The only real con is that the sites where we were, in the loop, were pretty close together. That of course could be a pro or a con, depending on who your neighbors are! We had plenty of space for our things, but you were definitely near the campers next to you, so it’s best to make friends!
